Nearly all children will have a cough at some point in their childhood. Coughing is a common symptom of illness—including viruses, such as an upper respiratory infection or a cold. Some coughs can sound worse than others, but it’s important to realize that even the awful ones are not usually caused by a serious illness. In fact, a cough is the body’s natural protective instinct to rid the body of irritants, such as mucous, food, or foreign objects.

Using this activity and the materials above, you—as a parent or caregiver—will be equipped to understand what type of cough your child has and how to help your child during a time of discomfort. Learn more here.
